Christopher Geldmacher Gets $226,000 Settlement for Woman Injured While Riding In a Taxi Cab
A 59-year-old woman took a taxi cab after leaving Lumiere Casino in Downtown St. Louis. On her ride home the driver of the taxi ran a red light at the corner of Page and Grand and t-boned into another vehicle. The woman was taken to St. Louis University Hospital by ambulance where she was examined and released. She followed up with doctors and was told she had disc herniations in her neck due to the accident. Her treatment included injections administered by a pain management doctor, and she was told by a specialist that she will probably require surgery in the future as a result of her injury. She experienced a great deal of pain and will require ongoing pain management treatments to help her control her pain.
Immediately after the collision, the woman came to Sauter Sullivan for help with her claim, and Chris Geldmacher handled her case. Once the extent of the woman’s injuries were known, settlement negotiations began. The taxi cab’s insurance company initially refused to pay the woman a fair settlement for the injuries she sustained. Not wanting to allow his client to accept the insurance company’s low offer, Mr. Geldmacher filed suit against the cab company. During the litigation, the insurance company for the taxi cab service went bankrupt. With the insurance company out of business, Mr. Geldmacher was able to find alternate sources of recovery for his client through her own insurance policy’s uninsured motorist coverage and from a state insurance guarantee association. In the end, Mr. Geldmacher obtained a $226,000 settlement for his client.
